How to make Warbat Bil Ashta

Warbat

There are a variety of ways to make Warbat but here is my recipe to make it. It is super easy and delicious.

Ingredients:

For the Warbat:

1 pack of filo pastry sheets (thawed if frozen)
1 cup unsalted butter, melted

For the Ashta Filling:

4 cups whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch, dissolved in 1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon rose water (optional)
1 tablespoon orange blossom water (optional)

For the Sugar Syrup:

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon rose water (optional)
Chopped pistachios for garnish

Instructions:

Ashta Filling:

In a saucepan, combine milk, heavy cream, and sugar. Heat over medium heat until it almost comes to a boil, stirring constantly.

Add the dissolved cornstarch to the milk mixture and continue stirring until the mixture thickens. This will take about 10-15 minutes.

Once thickened, remove the mixture from heat and add rose water and orange blossom water if using. Allow it to cool.

Warbat:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).

Lay out one sheet of filo pastry and brush it lightly with melted butter. Place another sheet on top and repeat until you have 6-8 layers.

Cut the layered filo sheets into squares or rectangles according to your preference.

Place the layered filo sheets on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning.

Remove the baked filo layers from the oven and let them cool.

Sugar Syrup:

In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, and lemon juice. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.

Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes until it thickens slightly.

Remove from heat, add rose water if using, and let it cool.

Serving

Take a baked filo layer and place a spoonful of the ashta filling in the center.

Top with another layer of baked filo and repeat the process until you have the desired number of layers.

Drizzle sugar syrup over the assembled Warbat Bil Ashta and garnish with chopped pistachios.

Allow it to chill in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving.

Enjoy your delicious Warbat Bil Ashta!

FAQs

Is Bakalava similiar to Warbat

Warbat Bil Ashta

Baklava and Warbat are yummy desserts from the Middle East. They are a bit similar but also different.

They use something called phyllo dough which is like a super thin pastry. Baklava has bits of chopped nuts, like walnuts or pistachios, between its layers.

Warbat is all about being smooth and creamy. It puts cream or custard between its phyllo layers, making it a creamy delight.

Even though they both show how awesome people are at making delicate pastries, Baklava and Warbat have their own things going on.

The nuts in Baklava and the creamy goodness in Warbat make them unique and super tasty.
